The first Hong Kong auction of a Lincoln Townley original, at Sotheby’s in April, achieved a final price of over a million HKD; we are extremely buoyant about the future for Lincoln’s works in Asia, and are looking to expand into these markets in 2022/23.
Lincoln Townley has now launched his Banker Collection at Sotheby’s Los Angeles.
Based on Camden Drive in the luxurious area of Beverly Hills, Sotheby’s LA is a prime location to show the explosive new works of one of the world’s most collected contemporary artists. Sotheby’s have had some incredible results auctioning the British artist’s work in New York and are now proving there is a lucrative route to market his new Banker works through their private sale practice.
Works will be arriving during the summer available exclusively through Sotheby’s, and Townley (who lives in West Hollywood sporadically throughout the year) will be attending the opening of the works in person. Links to these private works can be found below:
New York is a prime location for big bankers. Once again, Lincoln Townley – who is working with Sotheby’s New York – has an exclusive deal to supply his new Banker collection, and the pieces are being scooped up by financiers and bankers living in this vibrant, contemporary art-loving city. His latest work achieved $277,000 in the recent Contemporary Art Day Auction at Sotheby’s New York. This result created a surge in demand for other works from the latest Banker Collection from one of the most forward-thinking living artists of today.
Many of the sales of new original oil works come from the excitement around the auction results within the last 12 months. Please speak to the team at Sotheby’s New York about exclusive original works available through private sale.
Townley’s next global public show will be La Biennale, Venice, where works from the new collection will be shown in a prestigious room in Palazzo Mora. The show opens on 23rd April and runs to the end of November. Please find the link below to new works available through Sotheby’s private sale.
Momentum is central to our philosophy at the Lincoln Townley Studio, and many of you, as collectors, have shared in Lincoln’s rapid rise through the contemporary art world. It’s my great privilege to be able to connect directly with you and share news from within the studio as and when it develops.
In recent months, awareness of Lincoln’s work has been elevated to yet another level, spurring unprecedented demand, following the listing of multiple works by Sotheby’s, both in London and New York.
We wanted to take this opportunity to share with you an excerpt from the latest press release from Sotheby’s London:
The Private Sales team at Sotheby’s is proud to present a unique selection of Contemporary and Modern works of art available for immediate purchase. This impactful group consists of works by British legends such as Gilbert and George and Banksy as well as new and exciting artists to the secondary market; Lincoln Townley and STIK. Executed within the last two years, Lincoln Townley’s works from the Banker Series were completed in response to the artist’s previous job in nightclubs where the artist entertained high flyers from the industry in a seedy world of drugs and London’s nightlife. Townley, who is many years sober now, paints in fevered passion akin to Francis Bacon, yet the details of each face are erased to vibrant anonymity. Townley has had an explosive arrival at the auction market with a Banker painting selling for ten times its high estimate. The exhibition also features stunning works on paper by Frank Auerbach, Tracey Emin and Sean Scully.

We now have our sights firmly set on our arrangements for Venice Biennale which begins in April 2022 – Lincoln has been invited back to exhibit at Palazzo Mora, following the great success of the last Biennale show in 2019. This next show will feature select works from the current Banker collection, as featured at Sotheby’s. The new catalogue and latest works are available to you, directly through the studio, before the show opens in Venice.
