BIG IN JAPAN: ICONS arrive in Tokyo

Townley’s collection of ICONS will soon be arriving in the district of Ginza in Tokyo. Ginza is an area of wealth and opulence, well suited to the diamond encrusted new works of famous faces created by Townley. Negotiations are underway with other locations in East Asia as Townley begins talks with strategic partners. Townley said, “ICONS are global. We all recognise these famous faces and the culture of celebrity has driven many opportunities our way and I’m now in a position to fulfil a genuine global d mans for this particular part of my art, we have just acquired our first collector in Tokyo which has been extremely exciting.”

Townley will be at the Yokohama Triennale in Tokyo during September following his solo summer show at The Brisbane Powerhouse, which runs from 17th August to 1st October 2017. The Yokohama Triennale is a veteran among Japan’s art festivals, returning for its sixth run, and it will again centre on the Yokohama Museum of Art and its immediate surrounds. Akiko Miki, the artistic director of the Benesse Art Site on Naoshima, will be joining the Yokohama Museum’s head honchos on the festival’s directorial board.

A wide selection of famous faces will be on display in Tokyo and many new portraits will be unveiled before during and after the event. The event is private by invitation only and the location will be announced during August 2017.
